Tiny Inferno

“A glimpse into the endless macro world of the smallest ocean critters, I photographed this pontohi pygmy seahorse a stone’s throw from Arborek island. A tall coral structure at 15m – covered with tunicates (purple), coralline algae (red) and encrusting coral (yellow) – had become home to a seahorse no bigger than a pinky nail. Perched on a hydroid, his sparkly figure stand out against the fiery background. Arguably the hardest species of seahorse to find in Raja Ampat, I felt lucky that I stumbled upon it in such a colourful scene.”
